Philosophy

Dear Parents and Players,

In your search for a soccer club/team for your daughter, there will be many aspects that draw you into a particular direction. Hopefully, you have realized that you and your daughter will be interacting most of your time with the coach for at least a complete year. This makes it very important to know who and how the coach operates. As the Executive Director, I would like to explain what you can expect from our coaches in the up coming year if you decide to join Texas Spirit?

At Texas Spirit, we are committed to providing for the enhancement and enjoyment of girls soccer, by offering young women the opportunity to make new friends, develop advanced skills, and engage in the highest levels of soccer competition. We strive to assure that each girl's participation in our club is an enjoyable and rewarding experience, both on and off the soccer field. We are personally committed to succeed and to provide an enriched environment for our players, not only as competitive soccer players, but as young women. Our commitment to "EXCELLENCE IN GIRLS SOCCER," our club motto, is our challenge. We are dedicated volunteers and professionals who always strive to teach or provide the best coaching available for the girls in our club. In addition, we will firmly support and encourage each player's efforts to consistently strengthen our club, and by maintaining our flexibility to change, we remain, a key force in furthering the reputation of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex as producing some of the Nation's finest competitive girls soccer teams and players.

The coaching philosophy is aligned with the mission statement of the club.

Mission Statement: TO PROVIDE FAMILIES WITH A SOCCER EXPERIENCE THAT EMPHASIZES ENJOYMENT AND PLAYER DEVELOPMENT WITHIN A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT.

So what exactly does this mean? At Texas Spirit, we go by 3 priorities.

1 - Enjoyment - We want players to develop passion for soccer. If it's not fun, players will lose that passion. By applying positive reinforcement to develop confidence, and motivation techniques that creates a burning desire to improve, players will learn to always think about how they can be a better player.

2 - Development - The style of soccer that we play at Texas Spirit is an indirect attacking style of soccer by keeping possession of the ball. This requires the player to use skill and make intelligent decisions on and off the ball. This is a long term attitude toward accelerating player development which is often not as effective in the short run, when compared to the direct style of soccer also known as the "kick and run" game that many coaches adopt due to the pressure to win. The kick and run game often produces more results but sacrifices player development.

3 - Competitiveness - During practice or games, we go out to win and perform at the most excellent effort possible, but not to the detriment of the first two priorities. As long as 110% is given to achieve the goal for that particular game or practice, the player should be proud of his performance regardless of the result.

We believe that our coaches are first and foremost role models and teachers. Good coaching is not just about producing winning teams; it's about asking every day before practice or a game: "Is what we're planning to do today in the best interest of the kids?" Preparation, knowing the game and the proper progressions to various training topics, will provide the kids with numerous opportunities to explore and discover their full potential through active participation. Our coaches form an environment that allows each player on the team to become the best possible soccer player that she can be and provide maximum contribution to his team.

We hope that you understand our way and the way of the Dutch who produce some of the most talented soccer players in the world with a limited soccer participant number close to that of North Texas (250,000 youth soccer participants). Please contact us if you would need more information regarding any area of our club to assist you in your search for a team. We wish you much luck during tryouts and throughout this upcoming soccer year.
