What is TIPS?

TIPS stand for Technique, Insight, Psyche and Speed, basically covering the main 4 components of soccer; Technique, Tactics, Psychology and Physiology.

Technique
Technique is the basic mechanics of the game such as passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting and heading. A great deal of emphasis is placed on technical training for our Junior players because it is the foundation of a quality player and none of the other aspects of the game game be effectively taught with out this foundation.

Insight
Insight is the individual's ability to make and execute soccer decisions at speed. Individual and small group tactics will be taught using fun soccer games that are soccer specific to the real game and that instills the philosophy "The Game is the Teacher".

Psyche
The state of a players psyche will directly effect their performance as a soccer player. Confidence, a positive attitude, enjoyment of the game, will effect their motivation and desire to play the game. Coaches and parents have a heavy influence in the psyche development of a player and our Junior academy coaches realize this. The environment we create is focused on the enjoyment of the game, development of the fundamentals and being competitive by giving it a 100% every time you put you boats on.

Speed
The game of soccer has 3 types of speed: Technical Speed, Tactical Speed & Physical Speed.

Technical Speed
How quickly can you perform a turn to relieve pressure or make a move to beat your opponent?

How fast are you with the ball?

How long does it take you to settle the ball out of the air?

Can you beat your opponents with your first touch?

Many players know what to do and what the correct decisions are in a situation but don't have the ability to execute due to a lack of technical proficiency. Developing technical speed takes attention to detail in performing the technique correctly, repetition of the technique and learning to perform the technique under pressure.

Skill = Technique under pressure.

Tactical Speed
Some players have the technical proficiency to perform any skill however they either make the wrong soccer decisions or they don't recognize a soccer solution soon enough. To develop tactical speed, players must develop an understanding of the principles of defending, principles of attacking and the transition between the two. In soccer, coaches can not make the decisions for players to solve a soccer problem because those decisions have to be made within a split second and there are no "timeouts" or "first-downs". Rather, our coaches direct player decisions and create an environment where players develop an understanding of the game so they solve their own soccer problems. This is done by facilitating small sided games such as 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4.

Physical Speed
Speed will be coached in combination with footwork, agility, balance and coordination. Specific workouts will be designed to improve starting, first-step quickness, acceleration and an enhanced level of speed endurance.
